Precept increase correction for 2016/17 Budget
In the February 2016 Bulletin Parish residents were told:by Cllr. Hilary Brudenell, Chairman, Parish Council Finance Committee that:
“Unfortunately, as we all know, prices continue to rise. Therefore the Parish
Council has decided that these improvements, together with other commitments,
mean that the local tax (Precept) for 2016/17 will rise by approximately 4p per
month per household (assumes Band D Council Tax).”
This equates to 48 p per year. In fact the true increase ( ref; minutes of PC meeting 11 Jan 2016) was 43 p per month per household or £5.16 per year per household, that is more than 10 times what we were told and an increase of around 12 % over the 2015/16 precept. Also inflation in 2015 was zero according to national statistics, so there must be some other reason for the increase.
This was pointed out in my letter to the Chairman, Cllr Brudenell, on 5 March 2017. She has declined to put a correction in the April Bulletin, the Council’s normal means of communicating with residents. Why?
We are paying the true (£5.16 for Band D) increase every year. (For a Band G household the increase is £8.60/year).
