Cheshire West & Chester Design Code Development
Have Your Say Cheshire West and Chester Council are starting to develop a design code for the borough, in partnership with Create Streets. Design codes are a collection of design principles which help residents define what good development and high-quality public streets and spaces look like in their area. Once developed, the design code will support the delivery of the Local Transport Plan vision to help create more sustainable, and attractive places within our communities. We want you to have your say by sharing your views about which places, streets and buildings are liked (or not). The map and short survey are hosted by Create Streets: https://communities.createstreets.com/CWC The online survey will be open until Thursday 26 September, it can be completed in five minutes with as few or as many places picked. For any questions, or accessibility issues with the survey, email: [email protected] |

Findings of the ‘Let’s talk about… Transport’ Engagement Exercise
The ‘Let’s talk about Transport’ engagement exercise, which ran between 20 November 2023 and 28 January 2024, asked for views on the challenges we face and the priorities for local transport across the borough.
The findings and feedback on how we are responding to the key messages are available to view here.
Considered by the Council’s Cabinet in September 2024, the findings will help inform the Council’s decisions about the vision, priorities, and approach for the new draft Local Transport Plan. Details of this meeting can be found here.
Next Steps
‘Let’s talk about… Transport’ will continue with further engagement and consultation on the draft Local Transport Plan throughout 2025.
You can register for updates on future stages of the development of the new Local Transport Plan here.
Sandstone Ridge Visitor Survey
Rising dramatically from the Cheshire Plain, the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge is a unique landscape covering 230 sq km of rolling hills and sandstone escarpments, punctuated with glacial meres and mosses and stretching from Frodsham in the north to Malpas in the south. The Ridge attracts thousands of visitors every year, and recently the area has been shortlisted for potential Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) status. To support the process for obtaining AONB and to provide insights into who visits the Sandstone Ridge and why, the Sandstone Ridge Trust, in partnership with the University of Chester, is currently undertaking a Visitor Survey. (This project is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund). The aim is simple – we need to get as large a sample as possible of people who visit the ridge, but also importantly those who don’t.
The online survey takes around 5 minutes to complete, and the data gathered is entirely anonymous. Please click here to access the survey Sandstone Ridge Visitor Survey. Deadline for completion is 30th September 2024.
The final survey report and findings will be published in early 2025 on the Sandstone Ridge Trust Website: https://www.sandstoneridge.org.uk/

Design Code Consultation – CW&C
Cheshire West and Chester Council are starting to develop a design code for the borough in partnership with Create Streets. Design codes are a collection of design principles which help residents define what good development and high-quality public streets and spaces look like in their area. A code sets out exactly what is expected of developers in a clear and visual manner. This leads to the creation of more beautiful and sustainable places within existing communities that local residents are more likely to support and treasure.
To support our initial analysis, we want to hear your views to set community objectives on what this design code should include to ensure development respects the area’s unique heritage, landscapes and character. If you live, work, visit or study in Cheshire West and Chester we want to hear your views about which places, streets and buildings you like (or don’t) via the interactive map in the link below. The views you share with us will play an essential role in shaping the code and determining the future of your communities.
