As the Parish Council has not met for some time, it has been decided to hold a remote meeting by video link. This will take place at 7.00 pm on Monday 13th July. The agenda and related papers can be found on this website under documents/agenda. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting and details of how to do this can be obtained from the Parish Clerk as set out on the agenda. As this is essentially a trial meeting, there is only one substantive item on the agenda and that is to approve the accounts for 2019/20. We know people would like to hear about the recent consultation on parking but this will NOT be discussed at the meeting. We thank you for your patience with this.

In light of Covid-19 and related Government guidance, the Parish Council will not hold any face to face meetings until further notice and there are currently no plans to hold meetings remotely. So, the Annual Parish Council Meeting and the Annual Parish Meeting planned for 4th May have been cancelled. There are no urgent decisions to be made at present and so nothing is being neglected.  

Our thanks go to those residents who have responded to our request in the last Budworth Bulletin for people’s views on the possibility of introducing double yellow lines in certain parts of the village. There is still time to submit opinions on this (see April’s Bulletin for details) as the Council will not be taking the matter any further until it can once again hold meetings in the Parish Hall which members of the public can also, as usual, attend.

Coordinated community response to COVID-19 launched

Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) and the voluntary and community sector are all working closely together to provide an opportunity for residents to volunteer in the fight against COVID-19.

An online form has been created for residents to pledge their support for local communities, helping to make sure west Cheshire’s most vulnerable residents have access to things like essential food and medical supplies, as well as somebody to keep in touch with during any periods of self isolation.

Once residents have completed the online form, CWVA will signpost them to the charities and community groups in their area so they can do their bit to tackle COVID-19. Residents can also state what kind of volunteering they would be interested in so they can be matched with the ideal charity or community group.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “It is fantastic to see so many groups popping up in communities throughout west Cheshire as this spirit shows the determination of local people to triumph over the pandemic we now face.

“We are working closely with our partners in the community and voluntary sector to make sure we have a coordinated response and avoid any duplication. A lot of these charities and community groups have been around for years, providing a valuable service to vulnerable residents, and they continue do so in the fight against COVID-19.

“I would like to invite all volunteers who want to help and all groups who are already mobilising their efforts to become part of our network so that we can work together to build a strong and sustainable community response to coronavirus that safeguards the elderly, vulnerable and economically-impacted individuals in our borough.

“By working together across the community with local health organisations, charity sector, business sector, voluntary sector and faith sector, we can all play our part and beat this virus into history.”

Good neighbours can make a big difference to more vulnerable residents in their communities over the coming weeks and months, whether that is collecting their shopping, sending their mail, or simply have a short phone call with them.

Micro volunteering is a great way of doing small things to make a big impact. You don’t even need to leave the house as simply spreading the word about services or activities available in local communities could make all the difference.

All kinds of volunteering can be done while taking the relevant precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and before eating, drinking or touching your face.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.
• Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards.
• Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
• Leave any of your good neighbour deliveries at the door.

M6 junction 19 improvements scheme – start of works

Amey Sir Robert McAlpine (ASRM), working on behalf of Highways England, will be starting work on the M6 junction 19 improvement scheme in late March 2020. Work is also taking place to set up our site compound, which will be used as our office, for car parking, and for storage of materials and construction equipment.

What work will be carried out first?

During April and May, the main focus of the work will be within the centre of the roundabout, making preparations to enable us to start building the foundations of the new bridge from late May onwards. Other pockets of work will be carried out at the same time to confirm the location and condition of drainage provision, underground services and power cables.

During this period some traffic management arrangements will be put in place on the roundabout, and on the M6 beneath the roundabout, including reduced speed limits to protect our workforce. We advise drivers to take extra care within our roadworks and allow extra time for their journey.

Why are we doing this scheme?

Junction 19 of the M6 suffers from congestion resulting in long queues building up on the M6 exit slip roads onto the main carriageway. These queues impact upon journey time for road users and increase the risk of collisions through the junction and on the slip roads.

What are the benefits?

The scheme will reduce congestion around the junction and the slip roads, which will help to improve safety by reducing the risk of collisions. A new bridge directly linking the M6 exit slip roads to the A556 in both directions will provide quicker and more reliable journeys. The work will also improve the safety of local roads, with the addition of traffic signals on the A556, Pickmere Lane and Tabley Hill Lane junction.

We’ll also improve access for pedestrians and cyclists by widening the existing footway around the junction and providing a shared use pathway. We will link these new facilities in with the existing pathways, providing better and safer connectivity between Chester Road and the local roads south of the junction.

Please find attached link to a temporary road closure notice for TRO 2736 Westage Lane which commences on 9th March 2020  This is necessary for safety reasons to enable BT excavation and maintenance works and will be carried out by BT Openreach. The works are expected to last for 3 days
